A Mid Week Grilling in Terrigal

We’re sitting in an historic old building by a fire swilling an Argentinian Malbec.

It’s the most posh and romantic Tuesday night we’ve had in a while.

It’s a perk of being a Coastie and taking advantage of locals’ night at Terrigal’s new fine dining restaurant – Terrace Grill.

While the restaurant is only in its infancy, it possesses an old world charm thanks to the brick building it inhabits.

Tucked away on Ash St, alongside the Crowne Plaza, it’s one of the oldest buildings in the seaside suburb – it housed Terrigal’s original post office.

A chef has replaced the postman and in place of PO boxes there is a modern bistro complete with a fireplace, bar and open kitchen.

The third and latest Central Coast restaurant from Brett Dengate – the chef behind the Cowrie, also in Terrigal, and Ocean at Blue Bay – Terrace features similar culinary offerings to its Coastie brethren.

In fact, the entree of Shanghai prawns and beef main is the same as the Cowrie.

Grilled over wood fire and served with juicy local mushrooms and a classic Diane sauce, the cote de boeuf is hard to forget.

Tonight the locals’ menu – only $42 for two courses and a glass of wine – also includes a tasty goat’s cheese tart with a fig, walnut and olive salad.

Knowing the Cowrie and Ocean’s reputation for fresh seafood, we don’t ignore the recommendation to try the fish of the day.

The crispy skin ocean trout with pumpkin purée and sweet baby vegetables is spot on.

Sadly we’re too full for dessert but the locals’ deal – available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights – does extend to three courses for $52.

It’s all the excuse we need to head out for a mid week indulgence.
