Sublime holiday hot spots: Avoca and Terrigal
Set along a huge stretch of coastline, the Central Coast has so many little hidden locations just waiting to be discovered.
With Belle’s Property help, we have come up with a list of the coast’s best holiday hot spots, along with some stunning holiday houses, scenery to explore, places to eat and some great little boutique stores to shop in.
Avoca and Terrigal
Five minutes apart and located right in the mid-section of the Central Coast, these two tourist hubs are popular for a reason.
While Terrigal is famous for its great surfing, swimming and snorkelling conditions and stunning beach, it is the Esplanade that commands centre stage. With shops, bars and a lively café culture, there are many dining options, and the various pubs and cocktail bars buzz on evenings and weekends. Just behind the beach, Terrigal Lagoon is a peaceful spot to swim and relax and the popular Skillion Lookout is a steep cliff that faces the ocean, offering panoramic views across the Central Coast.
A coastal village known for its sparkling sea and laid-back lifestyle, Avoca Beach is a family-friendly haven brimming with charm and character. Known for its surfing and swimming conditions, it has a great rock pool, dog-friendly areas and a popular lagoon that is perfect for kayaking, canoeing and boating. There are plenty of grassed areas, a playground, barbecue facilities, and a string of cafés and restaurants.
Explore: Boardwalk – The Skillion walk
Walk all along the Terrigal beachfront Esplanade and then up along paths and boardwalks to arrive at The Haven and The Skillion.
The Skillion might be a bit of challenge for some, as it is steep with steps, but it is worth it for the panoramic ocean views. There are also several restaurants and cafés in The Haven area with ocean views.
Shop: Antigua Collective
This boho-luxe women’s fashion store in Terrigal offers great quality labels and fabrics such as Apéro, Le Specs and Bird & Kite, as well as its own collection ‒ Antigua Collective, Antigua Jewellery and Antigua Home.
Located on the main shopping strip, it is the perfect little shop to explore after a day on the beach. Grab a burger afterwards at the famous Chop N Grind.
This small modern Australian restaurant is known to be one of the best local spots for quality food and wine.
Using local, seasonal produce to make dishes with punchy, vibrant flavours, Yellowtail brings influences from the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Asia to a flexible, ever-changing menu.
