‘Agave’ is a residence that simply needs to be seen to be believed. Situated at 6 Bulkara Street, Wagstaffe, within the exclusive San Toy Estate, this seven-bedroom, five-bathroom architectural wonder received the coveted HIA ‘Australian House of the Year’ award in 2018. Now, it’s on the market – but fair warning, if you’re not ready to fall in love with your dreamhouse, you should stop reading now.

Designed by Sydney-based JPR Architects (now Cottee Parker JPRA) and built by Construct Central Coast, ‘Agave’ sits on over 2000 square metres of north facing deep waterfront. The sun-drenched home boasts uninterrupted views out to Brisbane Water, at the edge of the beautiful Broken Bay, and has been undoubtedly crafted to embrace luxurious, lifestyle living.

From the moment you enter through the private gates and venture down the white granite driveway (and past the full-scale children’s playground complete with swings, slide, a trampoline and a boat that doubles as a sandpit), it’s clear that this is a very special family residence.

The original brief was for a “light, bright beach house that was relaxed and not precious, to also accommodate the children and the grandchildren”. The home is spacious and elegant, yet welcoming and warm throughout with a white-on-white palette softened by timber and stone accents. Floor to ceiling glass maximises space and natural light, with seamless indoor/outdoor connection achieved through breezy and free-flowing open plan living spaces. Meanwhile, a palm-filled courtyard at the entry-way and infinity pool lapping the water’s edge out the back add to the luxury resort vibe, with the Bahamas-inspired garden also boasting a lanai for endless outdoor entertaining.

The master suite is located on the pool deck, and has the perfect atmosphere of a retreat if you happen to be in the residence sans visitors, with all other self-contained sleeping quarters located on the second storey of the home. The bunk room adds a beautiful touch for visiting families, as well as the infants’ room, and all parts of the house offer an exceptional level of privacy.

‘Agave’ is impeccably styled, with the endless whiteness of the décor aptly counterbalanced by neutral homewares, including cushions and rugs crafted from organic materials, recycled timber furniture and ornaments, cane baskets, rattan chairs, tribal objects and graphic artwork. Many of the furnishings were sourced by the original owners in LA, as well as locally from Orient House, MCM House and Water Tiger. No detail has been spared, with even a generously proportioned coffee table custom made to fit the sitting room by Mirek Zimakowski of The Restoration House. Artworks throughout the home are courtesy of the likes of Jessica Yolanda Kaye and Adrian Lockhart, while the exterior touches of agave, white bougainvillea, dragon and palm trees are courtesy of landscaper Marcia Hosking.

While the pool, the nearby beach and tropical vegetation lend themselves perfectly to alfresco summer living, the home is ideal for a winter escape, too.  There are three fireplaces, as well as one outdoors, so you’ll never catch a chill. We’ll see you in July, and we’re bringing the marshmallows.

The practicality, calmness and architectural detailing of the home give it timeless appeal, combining effortless luxury with resort-style living. With its ability to both bring family together, or give them privacy, ‘Agave’ is truly the perfect multi-generational home.
