What’s On: June 9 – Women in Australian Wine Luncheon @ The Cowrie
On Thursday, June 9, The Cowrie restaurant will host the Women in Australian Wine lunch to celebrate women winemakers from the Hunter Valley – and you’re invited.
Join the Central Coast Life & Style and Taste in the City teams, along with renowned Sommelier Stephane Pommier of SOM Australia as MC, for an afternoon of sumptuous food, exceptional wine and fabulous live entertainment. There will also be great raffle prizes and generous goodie bags on offer.
The lunch will be a multi-course degustation of four distinct and specially-designed dishes, created by AGFG chef-hat award-winning Executive Chef of The Cowrie, Dimitris Aronis. The menu will be matched with seven exceptional wines courtesy of Lisa McGuigan Wines, Savannah Estate Wines and Silkman Wines.
Guest Speakers
Lisa McGuigan – Lisa McGuigan Wines
With wine and business instincts distilled from her family’s four generations of wine making in the Hunter Valley, Lisa’s collaborative approach and intuitive design process set her apart as one of the leaders in the Australian wine industry. Lisa notably founded the renowned Tempus Two Wines, and her rebellious spirit has since led to the curation of several collections for her brand Lisa McGuigan Wines. Through her new label, Lisa is able to showcase her favourite varietals from around the world – all made or finished in our beautiful Hunter Valley.
Liz Silkman – Silkman Wines
Fresh off her win as 2022 Winemaker of the Year in the Hunter Valley Legends & Wine Industry Awards, Liz Silkman is no stranger to excellence in the Australian wine industry. Beginning her career with Brokenwood Wines in 1999, she has worked across many of the best wineries in the Hunter Valley, and has received a multitude of awards for winemaking. Her wines have also won countless trophies and medals here and overseas, while Liz has extensive wine judging experience across many wine shows across Australia. Currently, Liz creates wine for her own label, Silkman Wines, and is the Head Winemaker for First Creek Wines. She is further trusted by over 20 other wine labels to help with their production.
Savannah Peterson – Savannah Estate Wines
Savannah is a third-generation winemaker who blends a fresh passion for wine with a rich family history in winemaking and viticultural tradition. Following in the footsteps of both her parents and grandparents (Petersons Wines), Savannah embraces food and wine with the same intensity as her family has always done – with an interest in new techniques and experimentation, paired with a respect and love for traditional methods in equal measure. Savannah was also a nominee for the 2022 Young Achiever of the Year for the Hunter Valley Legends & Wine Industry Awards. She is definitely one to watch in the Australian wine industry in the coming years.
We’re proud to bring this event to the Central Coast in collaboration with Taste in the City and our partners at Belle Escapes Central Coast, and are beyond excited to celebrate the achievements of women winemakers from regional New South Wales who are changing the Australian wine landscape.
The event will also be raising much-needed funds for the incredibly charity, Autism Mates. So far, raffle contributions have been made by the likes of Dolce Vita Skin, Winmark Wines, YSL Beauty and Armani Beauty Australia, as well as Belle Escapes Central Coast.
