Gosford’s New Bespoke Bedfellow
Gosford’s busy homemaker hub has a chic, new bedfellow with a crafty cabinetmaker setting up his first shop on the Coast.
Loughlin Furniture Designs opened a few weeks ago and is already luring Coasties with an eye for style.
Having plied his trade for 10 years, using the internet and markets to get the word out, young furniture maker Rob Loughlin has finally taken the plunge into retail, finding a shop at the front of a workshop amongst the wreckers and smash repairers on Manns Rd.
It’s fitting that it’s a little bit further down the road from the Homemakers Centre – the bespoke, handcrafted pieces belong outside the mainstream.
Loughlin (pronounced with a hearty Irish “och”) Furniture Designs is a family affair with Rob’s lovely other half – Jess – working front of house and her dad Chris creating the stylish sign.
The Toukley couple’s vision is to provide quality-made timber treasures – including Rob’s signature tripod lamps – to Coasties at a fair price.
The gallery-like space is filled with eye-catching lamps, sleek dining tables, a beautiful bed and classic cabinets, all made from indigenous materials giving them a timeless natural hue.
Rob’s specialty is simple designs and good quality carpentry that will last a lifetime and isn’t likely to go out of style.
His striking lamps haven’t just caught our eye – popular The Block contestants Kyal and Kara are fans of the dramatic reach lamp.
With Kyal and Rob sharing a love for simple timber designs, it’s no surprise to hear they are working together creating beautiful homes on the Coast.
Just as timber touches won Kyal a lot of kudos on the reality show, Rob says timber vanities remain the hot design tip in modern bathrooms.
