Modern Organic: Long Jetty Zen
Yoga is exactly what Long Jetty needed. The hipster suburb had the funky cafes, the rad vintage clothes and the excess vinyl collections but was seriously lacking ‘namaste’.
Enter yoga power couple Kirt and Kiran Mallie, and the zen garden of Modern Organic.
While technically Kirt is the yogi, and Kiran is the gem running the delicious organic cafe – both are genuinely zen, peaceful folk that make you feel welcome every time you visit their bright and happy yoga cafe.
Modern Organic offers hot yoga classes in both Ashtanga flow (higher intensity) and Yin (lower, deeper stretches).
There are also offerings for mothers-to-be on a Tuesday evening, and kid’s yoga on a Wednesday afternoon.
For those really seeking their zen moment – there are early morning meditation sessions.
Then, there’s the food. As the name suggests, it’s all organic, and Kiran is the mastermind behind the menu.
It’s tasty, eclectic, and delicious.
We’ve slurped through a smoothie bowl, devoured raw cakes, sampled the buckwheat porridge and scoffed the tasty coconut pancakes. Not to mention the chocolate brownies, which Kiran promises aren’t entirely bad for you.
Found on the Central Coast Highway, right in the heart of Long Jetty, the yoga studio is bright and clean, with a rainbow mandala filling one wall, and a mirror opposite so you can check your alignment.
The cafe has some chairs and tables out the front, great for Jetty people watching, but the Zen Garden out the back is where you want to be – kids can roam happily, or draw at the play table – while adults chat happily amongst the birds and trees.
Whether you’re a yogi or not, this community-minded cafe and yoga space is well worth a visit, and will no doubt be a Long Jetty institution for many years to come.
Coastal Chic Tip: If you haven’t incorporated ingredients like buckwheat and matcha into your breakfast routine, give them a try at MO, Kiran knows how to make anything tasty
