Summer Lovin’: What’s Hot This Summer

Ahhh summer. Our favourite season.

The sweet scent of sunscreen and frangipani in the air, toes perpetually coated in sand, skin salty and fresh.

To ensure your summer gets off to a sizzling start we’ve collected the best beauty and style tips from a tribe of chic Coasties who are totes in the know about what’s hot this summer.

The fashionistas are in agreement – shoulders will be the most sought after real estate this season.

Not-so-plain Jane, Amelia Wasiliev, from Long Jetty’s Plain Janes says the must-have item this summer is an off-the-shoulder top.

‘Off-the-shoulder tops or dresses bring boho and fashion together while adding summer ease to any outfit,’ she says.

Jetty stablemate Kellie Marshall from Sadie Lou Boutique agrees: ‘Fresh, floaty, feminine florals are very much trending this season along with gorgeous off-the-shoulder style tops and long maxi dresses’.

Killarney Vale stylist Chantel Verduci says sweet tooths will be in for a treat with this season’s style coming in  a ‘sugary-sweet pastel palette’.

According to Coastal Chic’s resident stylists Sam and Jordi Woods from VibrantConcepts, this summer will be a white out.

The stylish mum and daughter duo from Terrigal say, ‘Get it right and accessorise with white. It’s the must have accessory colour to take your outfit from day to dusk’.

Emily from Bohemian Traders, which opened its first bricks and mortar store in Erina Heights earlier this year, says delicate boho detailing and self-coloured embroidery will be the must-have summer item.

‘My pick is the Bohemian Traders Embroidered Boho Dress which covers all bases – sweet pleating, flirty lace inserts and a healthy dose of that beautiful bohemian embroidery we all know and love. I wear mine with tan flats for day and something strappy for the evenings,’ she says.

Want your digs to sizzle with style this summer? Super stylist Jason Grant’s hot tip for chic Coasties is to invest in classic, bold and bright stripes.

‘It’s a classic summer beach look that never goes out of style and it’s perfect for the Australian summer and easy to introduce to any home,’ he says.

Evie Adasal from Honey I’m Home, a chic homewares haunt which has newly relocated from Umina to Wamberal, says to look out for fresh whites and natural fibres this summer.

‘Living in such a fast paced world where so much is produced en masse, I see a return to the love of the artisan process. Anything with texture and natural materials is aesthetically softer on the eye, whilst adding warmth to your home,’ she says.

Between swimming, sunbaking and sweating, summer and make up aren’t the best bedfellows.

Jade Pentony, the beauty behind North Avoca backyard salon Glow, shares her summer beauty hack: tint your eyelashes at the start of the season, and possibly even invest in eyelash extensions so you’re eyes pop sans make up.

Tina Baverstock from Bateau Bay’s Laser Lounge says the most important thing is to protect your skin from sun damage. She loves Synergie uber zinc for its blanket UV protection.

Summer is the season when blonde ambition is at its peak and at Captivate Hair Body Soul at Terrigal, their colourists have mastered the natural look. They are pros at creating colour which screams sun-kissed beach babe.

Newcomer to the Coast, Franck Provost, which just opened salons at Erina and Tuggerah, says forget balayage. They reckon Indian Sun is the new hair contouring technique that will be on everyone’s lips (and hair tips). It’s basically handpainted babylights that are so subtle they’re barely there.

And after a big day at the beach, when you just want to hop from the sand to a stool in your fave bar and crack a cold one without messing about with showers and straighteners, we can’t go past Batiste. Their dry shampoo turns limp and lacklustre locks into sexy and sassy strands in seconds. There are even tropical flavours so you’ll look and smell the part of a summer vixen.
