As the Coast becomes increasingly chic, so too are the cafes, their baristas and the quality of the coffee.
No matter where you live or wherever you’re visiting, rest assured there is somewhere to get your coffee fix.
From the tip of Toukley to the edge of Ettalong, here’s our guide to the Coast’s top 10 takeaway coffees.
A Barber Shop espresso
The coolest spot on Toukley’s main strip, Barber Shop Espresso is a hole-in-the-wall cafe serving up exceptionally good coffee. There’s only a handful of seats in a minimalistic setting because it’s all about the coffee, a fruity Toby’s Estate blend. It doesn’t stay open long or late but Josh is there when it counts.
Coffee to go at the Burrow Coffee House at The Entrance
The Burrow is exactly like the name suggests: warm, dark and cosy, and the service from hosts Lauren and Luke is friendly and personable. Grab a takeaway Toby’s Estate on your way to visit The Entrance Pelicans, or bypass the busy tourist hub and just grab a flat white on the way up north.
Glass Onion Society
There’s an awesome foursome serving up a good brew on the Long Jetty strip. Whether you’re en route to the Entrance or heading south to Sydney, the hardest part is choosing whether to call into Glass Onion, Green Tangerine, Modern Organic or Common Ground. We love them all.
Like Minds Avoca
Freshly ground beans meet freshly grown greens at Like Minds Avoca. Conveniently located on the way in to Avoca – it’s a cafe, garden and creative space where hipsters and hippies, surfers and city slickers, all gather in search of their daily caffeine hit.

Founded on the Central Coast a decade ago, the evolution of good coffee in the region can just about be traced back to Glee Coffee Roasters. From their Wyong HQ, the Glee team churns out top notch coffee including their now famed house blend, “The Goods”. They’ve grown their business to two cafes on the Coast so whether you’re cruising past Erina Heights or through Wyong, you know there’s a good ole’ cup of Joe with your name on it. There’s also loads of other Coastie cafes boasting their beans and brews.
A coffee and a duffin at Village Emporium
The Village Emporium is a little gem nestled in the Wamberal shops and a perfect highway stop for commuters going north or south. Grand Cru coffee is their bean of choice – it’s a dark and rich brew. Husband and wife team Derek and Trish are leading the charge with cool, creative pastries on the Coast – try a Duffin (a donut muffin hybrid) with your coffee for just $1.
Ooomph cafe at East Gosford
Helping to put some oomph into each and every day, Ooomph at East Gosford serves up a deliciously smooth flat white. The industrial-style cafe is tucked away in an alley but we’ve never had trouble finding a park when we need to duck in for a coffee.
Takeaway coffee at Jimmy Gs Gosford
Jimmy G’s is building an empire in Gosford – five cafes and counting. They serve their own “Jimmy G’s” blend, sourced from Guatemala. With fast, personal service, Jimmy G’s baristas are the type who remember your order after the first visit. If you work in the CBD and need a takeaway, head to their Espresso bar and say hello to the effervescent Des, she’s a coffee pro and loves a chat while you wait. Gosford’s newly revamped Imperial Centre is the latest place to house the Coastie chain.
Takeaway coffee from The Box, Ettalong
Widely considered the best cuppa on the Peninsula, punters come from far and wide for a Campos coffee at Coast 175 Ettalong. Sometimes parking can be tricky but it’s worth persevering to get your weekend fix from one of the most coastal chic cafe’s on the Coast. For a takeaway a smidge closer to the water, sister establishment The Box offers convenience in a cup from its seaside kiosk.
This Little Piggy & Co, Point Clare
We’ve recently discovered Point Clare’s chic hole-in-the-wall cafe – This Little Piggy. From the cheeky flying pig mural to their pretty bio cups, it’s a cafe with personality. It’s little wonder the locals have embraced it – the coffee is top notch.
Coastal Chic Tip: Do your bit for the environment and take a ‘keep cup’ in with you next time you see your fave barista.
